Local trade website
Luke Shave Plumbing
A sole-trader plumber in Orpington competing against national brands with call-centre budgets.

The sole trader's disadvantage
A one-person plumbing business is competing in the same search results as national firms with call centres and marketing departments. It cannot win on breadth, so it has to win on the two things the nationals are bad at: a real named person, and a straight answer about price.
Both of those became the design brief.
A price before a phone number
The instant quote shows a ballpark range without asking for any personal details first. That is the unusual part. Most trade quote forms demand a name, an email and a phone number before revealing anything, which is a fair trade only if the visitor already trusts you — and at that point in the visit, they do not.
Showing the number first inverts it. Somebody who sees a range they are comfortable with then volunteers their details, and the enquiries that arrive have already accepted the price.
- Service, property type, urgency and job size — four dropdowns, no free text
- An estimated range shown on the page immediately, clearly labelled as an estimate rather than a fixed quote
- Contact details requested afterwards, to confirm a firm price
- Call and WhatsApp available throughout for anyone who would rather skip the form
Pages written the way customers search
People do not search for 'domestic plumbing services'. They search for a leaking tap, a boiler that will not fire, a bathroom refit, and they add their town to it.
So the service pages are named after the problems rather than the trade categories, and the coverage map for South East London and Kent tells someone in thirty seconds whether this plumber will come to them — which is the first question, before price and before reviews.
Independent feedback
The client is rated 9.81 out of 10 on Checkatrade from 22 reviews. That rating belongs to the client and reflects their work, not ours. We mention it because it is checkable, and because a website can only ever amplify a reputation that already exists — it cannot manufacture one.
